Carillon Technologies Announces Appointment of Curt Carlson to Advisory Board

ARLINGTON, Va. – October 15, 2018 – Carillon Technologies today announced the appointment of Dr. Curt Carlson, former President and CEO of SRI International, to the Carillon Technologies Advisory Board.

“We are thrilled to be bringing Curt’s deep commercialization experience and technology background to Carillon’s Advisory Board,” said Dr. John Evans, Carillon Technologies’ CEO. “For sixteen years, Curt served as president and CEO of SRI International, a 2500-person research and development company in Silicon Valley, California, where he turned SRI into the premier independent source for high-value innovations. His accomplishments include overseeing development of Siri, which SRI subsequently sold to Apple. We welcome his insights as Carillon drives the transition of technology from the commercial sector into defense applications.”

Mr. Carlson currently is founder and CEO of The Practice of Innovation, an advisory firm dedicated to the development and implementation of innovation best practices. He serves as trustee at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, an advisor for the U.S. National Science Foundation Engineering Division, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering for improving R&D and innovation impact. Previously, he served as president and CEO of SRI International from 1998 until 2014, where he more than tripled SRI’s revenue and created a global model for innovation leading to the development of high-definition television, Intuitive Surgical, Apple’s Siri, and many other world-changing advances. Carlson served on President Obama’s National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship and is co-founder and director of the U.S. National Information Display Laboratory, where he formed a distributed laboratory of global partners to develop revolutionary improvements for advanced displays and signal processing. He received his B.S. in physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Rutgers University.

“Carillon is leading the charge to drive innovation and performance for the Department of Defense,” said Carlson. “Secretary of Defense [Jim] Mattis made clear in the National Defense Strategy that the department must reform to innovate at the speed of relevance while providing best value for every taxpayer dollar. Carillon’s new business model promises to deliver as we drive the transition of technology from commercial sector to the defense prime contractors, helping to secure our national defense, create new American jobs, and ensure that those who serve America have access to the same technologies that Americans enjoy in their homes and businesses every day.”
